Children’s Learning Center is designed to facilitate children’s intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional and physical growth. Our program consists of children six weeks to five years of age. Play is seen as children’s work, or the primary way the child learns. Our program incorporates play and academics, as our goal is to make learning interesting and fun. Our classrooms are comprised of various discovery areas; such as the construction area, dramatic play area, language area, computer area, art area, sensory/science area, manipulative area and outdoor play, which is an extension of the classroom.
In a typical day at preschool, there are both structured and non-structured times which include individual and group activities. The discovery areas are enriched with learning materials that children manipulate individually, with others or with teacher direction. Children are encouraged to explore all areas under the guidance and supervision of the teacher. We utilize the ABeka curriculum as a supplemental curriculum to develop phonemic awareness, mathematical concepts and spiritual growth. Homework is distributed to children at two years of age as practice and review of concepts children are learning in class.
This type of programming is necessary for our developmental focus, which allows the staff to see each child as an individual with likes and dislikes, different needs and levels of growth, and provides ways to maximize each child’s experience at preschool. Progress notes are completed quarterly and parent conferences are encouraged.
